DCM2 Mutation TestingNorth Carolina State University's Veterinary Hospital announced that they identified a second genetic mutation in Dobermans with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). They believe there are two mutations that can lead to Doberman Dilated Cardiomyopathy: PDK4/DCM1 and the newly discovered NCSU DCM2, and explain that "although both PDK4 (DCM1) and DCM2 can each independently lead to the development of the disease, the risk is highest when a dog is unlucky enough to have both mutations."
NCSU has yet to publish the study behind the DCM2 mutation, so we do not know what kind of mutation this is or where it is located, and cannot test for it. If you wish to test your dog for the DCM2 mutation, you can do so through NCSU at the links provided below. To watch Dr. Meur's video presentation of the DCM2 mutation, you can find the six-part video presentation HERE. Order the DCM2 test from NCSU.
MONEY SAVING TIP!
Embark Vet's panel already INCLUDES PDK4/DCM1, so if you've tested through the DDP, order ONLY the DCM2 test. The DCM2 test is $48. Read the NCSU DCM2 Test Order Form for instructions on how to pay for your DCM2 test kit online. Order the NCSU DCM2 test for a Litter.
MONEY SAVING TIP!
Using this form for a litter drops your per pup test cost from $48 to $41. If you're testing your litter through the DDP (with Embark Veterinary), ONLY order the DCM2 test from NCSU. No need to pay for the PDK4/DCM1 test twice. It'll be included in your pup's Embark Veterinary results. |
